Guerrilla Girls Exhibition Design

Adobe InDesign | Adobe Illustrator | Adobe Photoshop | Figma

About

This project was created in response to a project aimed at curating and designing a museum exhibition. I decided to showcase the works of the Guerrilla Girls: anonymous, intersectional feminist artists who protest inequality in the art world and beyond. I titled my exhibition "Female Rage: The Guerrilla Girls Protest Art" and created a style sheet, word mark, promotional posters, and merchandise for the exhibit, as well as a website design and prototype in Figma.

Brand Guidelines

Posters

In the ideation stage of this exhibition, I chose the words "aggressive, grunge, and urban" to describe the aesthetic that I hoped to curate for the exhibition, and for the posters, I let these moods guide my design choices. I used Photoshop to edit the gorilla face into a halftone with transparent eyes to play with negative space. I used a transitional typographic system with black and white banded text on the side of the poster to play into the grunge, edgy design aspect of the poster.

Tickets

The tickets are a blend of fun and functionality. The different color bands on the right designate different days of the week, with one closed day, and the paint splatter varies from child, student, adult, and senior by the ticket type.

Merch

Merchandising includes a tote bag, shirt, and a collectible matchbox. The tote bag and shirt copy was written to match the pro-choice commentary that the Guerrilla Girls make in many of their works, while the matchbox uses another slogan that is not directly associated with the Guerrilla Girls but mirrors their tone.

Website Design

I designed & prototyped a gallery website in Figma to make it interactive. The website features a landing page, shop, tickets page, events page, and an option to change languages.
